Renee Baker presents The Baldwin Chronicles: Negro Ideologies

Wine Reception & Dinner Buffet accompanied by film 6:00 pm | Concert 7:00 pm

A renaissance woman in the truest sense, Renee Baker (composer, violist, poet, artist, filmmaker and current CSO visiting artist) brings us The Baldwin Chronicles: Negro Ideologies, a multimedia musical work of operatic proportions based on texts by James Baldwin. Just as relevant now as he was in the mid-twentieth century, Baldwin painted a nuanced portrait of Black life in America. An artistic rumination on the conversation Baldwin’s texts and speeches brought about, The Baldwin Chronicles is performed by 20 instrumentalists and singers from the Chicago Modern Orchestra Project (CMOP) and the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM).

Preceding the performance (6pm), watch an art film produced by Baker while you eat. The performance begins at 7pm, and it promises to be truly epic.
