hum-filmtwoWhat is new media art? James Hodge of Northwestern University provides an introduction to the vibrant and diverse field of artistic production variously known as new media art or digital art. Hodge explores the history and development of new media art in concert with technological developments by examining works by artists such as Charles Csuri, Lillian Schwartz, John F. Simon Jr., and Jason Salavon. Hodge discusses why it matters that these artists work with digital media, and how their works cite and depart from well-known artworks by Duchamp, Pollock, Warhol, Lewitt, and Paik.
