En su primera exhibición en los Estados Unidos, Brenda Draney (miembro de la Primera Nación de Sawridge, Tratado 8) comparte pinturas narrativas realizadas desde 2009, junto con obras encargadas recientemente, que ofrecen destellos de su experiencia personal y comunitaria. Brenda Draney: Drink from the river explora la noción de movimiento que sugiere el incesante flujo de un río. Inspirada en el clásico aforismo que afirma que nadie puede cruzar dos veces el mismo río, la obra de Draney abarca la inutilidad de recuperar experiencias pasadas.
Los hispanohablantes están invitados a un breve recorrido por la exposición de la artista Brenda Draney en las galerías de The Arts Club, seguido de bebidas y aperitivos en The Drawing Room.
La gira estará a cargo de Mayra Cecilia Palafox, artista y administradora de artes originaria de Michoacán, México, y exalumna de la Escuela del Instituto de Arte de Chicago. Uno de sus intereses es ayudar a que las comunidades inmigrantes de habla hispana tengan un papel activo en la participación pública a través de colaboraciones con otras instituciones culturales, música, comida y artistas visuales locales. Mayra ha trabajado en el Museo Field, el Instituto de Arte de Chicago, el Museo Metropolitano de Arte, la Sociedad Histórica de Nueva York, el Museo Smart, y ahora es la Gestora de Programas Bilingües y de Aprendizaje en el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Chicago.

In her first exhibition in the United States, Brenda Draney (member of Sawridge First Nation, Treaty 8) shares narrative paintings made since 2009, along with newly commissioned works, that offer glimpses into her personal and communal experience. Brenda Draney: Drink from the river explores the notion of flux suggested by the unceasing flow of a river. Inspired by the classical aphorism stating that no person can step in the same river twice, Draney’s oeuvre embraces the futility of recapturing past experience.
Spanish speakers are invited to a short tour of artist Brenda Draney’s exhibition in The Arts Club’s galleries, followed by drinks and hors d’oeuvres in The Drawing Room.
The tour will be lead by Mayra Cecilia Palafox, an artist and arts administrator originally from Michoacan, Mexico. She is an alumna of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with an interest in how spanish-speaking immigrant communities can have an active role in public engagement through collaborations with other cultural institutions, music, food, and featuring local visual artists. Mayra has worked at the Field Museum, The Art Institute of Chicago, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York Historical Society, The Smart Museum, and is now Manager of Learning and Bilingual Programs at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago.
